What are Valorant ranks?? arrow faq
Valorant ranks are a way to accurately determine both your skill and rank in matches. They are visible to your party, the tab menu, and the summary scoreboards. The ranking system consists of 25 ranks in total, excluding Unranked. Most players start at the Iron rank, although their performance during placement matches can put them in a higher ranking and tier. For example, exceptional players may skip four levels and see their starting rank at Bronze.
How does the Valorant ranking system work? arrow faq
The ranking system in Valorant uses a Match Making Rating (MMR) system to target your performance skill level. MMR is a giant ladder, consisting of all players. If you win, you climb up and push others down. Alternatively, if you lose, you get pushed down by others. No two players can tie or take up the same spot on the ladder. The system also has subtle penalties associated with skipping queues and requires players to play 5 placement matches at the beginning of each new Episode to get placed, with Ascendant 1 being the highest initial placement.
What are the restrictions for queuing up with a 5-stack in Competitive mode? arrow faq
Parties of 5 (5-stacks) can ignore ranked restrictions and are not bound by any ranked restrictions. However, 5-stacks of Iron-Ascendant players must adhere to certain rules to ensure there isn't a huge skill disparity in games where one player is clearly above or below the average skill of other players in the match. Specifically, whoever you party with must be within 2 ranks (6 tiers) from you.
What are the disparities and penalties associated with 5-stack queuing? arrow faq
While 5-stack queuing is fun and coordinated, rank disparities can result in significant rank rating penalties. The complexities and quirks of the hidden MMR system and the complex algorithms it embraces make the ranked system in Valorant difficult to predict. The system is designed to ensure that there isn't a huge skill disparity in games where one player is clearly above or below the average skill of other players in the match.
What are the requirements for accessing Competitive Mode in Valorant? arrow faq
As of Episode 4 Act 1, players need to be at least Account Level 20 before gaining access to Competitive Mode. Additionally, if a player played at least one ranked match before Episode 4 and is below Account Level 20, they will still be allowed to play in Competitive. Parties of 5 (5-stacks) can ignore the Account Level requirement.
