Indian Esports Player Criticizes Indian TOs for Delayed Prize Distribution

The Indian esports scene has seen a meteoric rise in popularity and participation over the last couple of years. However, the tournament organizers (TOs) are now facing criticism for a recurring issue that threatens to undermine its growth –  the delayed distribution of prize money. Numerous esports teams and players have voiced their frustration over the prolonged waits for their hard-earned winnings, raising concerns about the professionalism and reliability of tournament organizers in India.

Indian Valorant pro Tejas “rite2ace” Sawant also voiced his frustration for the same. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his dissatisfaction. In his post, rite2ace praised Nodwin Gaming for adhering to their promise of clearing prize money within 45-60 days. However, he also pointed out that some organizers have far less acceptable practices, stating, “One of them told us it would be cleared after 180 days lmao.”

Consequences of Delayed Prize Distribution in Indian Esports

The delay in prize money distribution not only affects the players financially but also impacts their morale and trust in the system. Esports, unlike traditional sports, often relies heavily on prize winnings as a significant source of income for players and teams. Delays can thus create financial instability and discourage new talent from entering the field.

The problem is not new. For years, players and teams have been vocal about the delay in the disbursement of prize money. Despite the growth of the esports industry in India and the increasing number of tournaments being held, the issue persists. The Indian esports industry is at a crucial juncture. As it continues to grow and attract global attention, addressing issues like delayed prize money distribution is essential.
